What's this mean?

Summary: "King" is a fantastic blend of classical music and extreme metal, and while it's just shy of being perfect, it still deserves to be heard by even the most casual fans of the genre.

I knew this album was going to be brilliant, but I had no idea it would be genre defining.

Fan or not, every metal head needs to purchase and listen to this album.

This is still an absolute brutal affair, however more bombastic and more epic and truly an exploration into some uncharted waters.

King is an album that should not be taken lightly and it is a true showing of how Metal can be distributed in many different directions.

For fans of symphonic death at its finest, Fleshgod Apocalypse is at the top of the heap, though fans of “Oracles” may find the material a little too straightforward and normal.

While every release the band has put together since Oracles has been a concept album, the total composition has never been as cohesive as King. From the introductory swells of “Marche Royale” and “In Aeternam,” it’s clear that Fleshgod Apocalypse has worked hard to make sure that each song is perfectly constructed.

The band is known for their bombastic sound, which is the product of combining Death Metal with classical and operatic influences. If you’re a fan of this kind of music and you enjoyed their previous albums, like me, you certainly will love King.

Fusing classical music and death metal, which seem like opposites, is no easy task but Fleshgod Apocalypse ensures that they gel together, and ‘King’ is proof of that.

Things to like about Fleshgod Apocalypse: They have a wine... And they do a pretty sweet take on symphonic metal.

Although 'King' is never dull, it is perhaps more measured than we've come to expect from Fleshgod. [Issue Feb.2016]
